Christmas in July raises over $15,000 for Kurrajong Waratah

Fitzpatricks Real Estate proudly supported Wagga Business NetworX at their annual Christmas in July event on Friday evening.

Joyes Hall was a buzz with over 150 people attending the three course dinner, with entertainment from the talented Australian Army band Kapooka under the direction of Major Jeff Cocks and the delightful voice of Simone Due. Over $15,000 was raised for the children’s accommodation division of Kurrajong Waratah from ticket sales and a charity auction.

Helping to make a difference in the lives of children with a disability was at the forefront of everyone’s mind on Friday evening, and Kurrajong Waratah is extremely grateful for the support shown.

Providing care for a child or in some cases children with a disability places enormous pressure on families who need to be on deck 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sometimes there is no one to offer them relief. An annual holiday for these families is made possible by members of Wagga Business NetworX, who help provide a weeks respite from this demanding role in addition to providing a great holiday for the children.

Development Services Manager, Cathie Smith for Kurrajong Waratah, announced the holiday is now secure for another year thanks to the efforts of those in attendance Friday evening.

Cathie Smith said “this break from their full time caring role means a great deal to families. I know they do appreciate it and look forward to enjoying the luxuries that are second nature and taken for granted by many of us.”

A huge thank you must go to Adam Drummond, Director of Fitzpatricks Real Estate and Craig Barrett, Director of Bolton Connolly who bravely waxed their chests all in the name of charity. Thanks must also go to Major Jeff Cocks who had his head shaved.

Fitzpatricks Real Estate Director and one of the founding members of Wagga Business NetworX, Adam Drummond, said the event is one of the highlights on the group’s fundraising calendar of events.

“This year’s event was an outstanding success in terms of funds raised to assist Kurrajong Waratah and the support received by members of the public." Adam said “On behalf of the Wagga Business NetworX committee, I extend thanks to those who support this event each year. The committee works hard to provide the funds required by Kurrajong Waratah to fund activities like holiday accommodation for children who may not otherwise have the opportunity.”

We are looking forward to an even bigger and better event next year.
