245kms walked for Relay for Life

Date: 25 March 2010

Last weekend an enthusiastic team from Fitzpatricks Real Estate “Fitzy Phantoms” participated in the 2010 Cancer Council Relay for Life at the Equex Centre. Even though the temperature reached 36 degrees on Saturday, we were lucky enough to have 24 keen and willing walkers ranging in ages from 3 weeks to 82 years old, all doing their bit for this amazing fundraising event. Team members walked in memory and support of family, colleagues and friends who have suffered or been lost. Highlights of the event were the Candlelight Ceremony of Hope, during which a minute silence was held and local survivors and carers walking the first lap of the track while the rest of us cheered them on.

To keep things interesting a tally was kept of laps walked during the 24 hour period by our team and we were amazed to discover that we had collectively walked 612 laps, equating to 245kms - that’s from Wagga Wagga to Canberra! At last count, our fundraising tally was $2,500 to contribute with the totalcommunity relay tally of $105,587.95, a phenomenal result. These funds will go towards local education programs, community grants and cancer research – so that we can eradicate this insidious disease.

Anyone who is willing to make a donation towards the "Fitzy Phantoms" Relay for Life team you can still do so by visiting the official Relay for Life website. All donations over $2.00 are tax deductable.

For those who have considered participating in this event but haven’t yet done so, we highly recommend giving it a go in 2011, it is a truly fun and uplifting experience.
