Change your clock - change your smoke alarm battery

A timely reminder that daylight saving will end in New South Wales this Sunday the 5th of April 2009 at 3:00 am, when clocks will be put back one hour. People may find it convenient to put their clocks back by one hour before going to bed on Saturday the 4th of April.

As well as changing clocks, the end of daylight saving is an opportune time to change the batteries in your home smoke alarms.

It is also important to ensure smoke alarms are positioned in the correct locations around your home. Smoke alarms are designed to protect you while you are sleeping. Install smoke alarms in positions that will wake all occupants in the home and give them time to evacuate. The Fire Service recommends that smoke alarms ideally be installed in every sleeping area, hallways and living areas.

Ensuring your smoke alarms are in correct working order will help protect you and your family.
