370kms walked and $3,500+ raised in Relay for Life

On Saturday 21st of March, an enthusiastic team from Fitzpatricks Real Estate “If pink fitz wear it” participated in the 2009 Cancer Council Relay for Life. We were lucky enough to have 24 keen and willing walkers ranging in ages from 4 to 81 years old, all doing their bit for this amazing fundraising event. Team members walked in memory and support of family, colleagues and friends who have suffered or been lost. One of the highlights of the event was The Candlelight Ceremony of Hope, during which a minute silence was held. The ceremony was completed with a performance by The Cantilena Singers and lap walked by candlelight.

To keep things interesting a tally was kept of laps walked during the 24 hour period by our team and we were amazed to discover that we had collectively walked 922 laps, equating to 370kms! At last count, our fundraising tally was $3,500 to contribute with the total relay tally of over $157,000, a phenomenal result. These funds will go towards local education programs, community grants and cancer research – so that we can eradicate this insidious disease.

For anyone who has considered participating in this event but hasn’t yet done so, we would highly recommend giving it a go in 2010, which will be the Relay’s 10th anniversary in Wagga. It is a truly fun and uplifting experience.
