Helping the Fight against Breast Cancer
Fitzpatricks Real Estate has provided Dragons Abreast Wagga Wagga with a helping hand in the lead up to the Dragon Boat Regatta in Sydney during Chinese New Year celebrations. Fitzpatricks Real Estate was humbled to donate important life jackets for the Dragons Abreast team to ensure they looked the part and safety standards were met for the Regatta in Darling Harbor last weekend.
The crew of 21 local paddlers included breast cancer survivors, supported by their family and friends entered the race with the main goal of having fun. The team was pleased to state that they “always come first in their lane”.
Dragon’s Abreast Wagga Wagga was established in May 2006 as a committee of the Wagga Breast Cancer Group. The aims of Dragons Abreast are to:
- support people with a diagnosis of breast cancer
- promote wellness, fitness, fun and friendship for breast cancer survivors
- raise awareness of breast cancer in the community.
The preparation and training for the Chinese New Year races has brought out the determination and persistence in these paddlers. Being able to rebuild one’s health, fitness and confidence in the company of others who have travelled the same path, helps breast cancer survivors enjoy a full and active life.
The Dragons Abreast members had a fantastic time during the Dragon Boat Regatta and they are looking forward to continuing their training and hard work to return again next year for some more fun. There is always room for more paddlers and they encourage breast cancer survivors to join in the fun.
Dragons Abreast Wagga Wagga relies heavily on donations from the community, fundraising and sponsorship to purchase equipment and to keep their organisation active. Supporting such a worthwhile cause was second nature to Fitzpatricks Real Estate. We hope our small but important contribution of life jackets will boost the team’s morale and encourage them to persevere and remember to never lose sight of the dreams.
